The vase and flower show

Patsy Hely Vase with Eastern Spinebill 2013-2020
porcelain
15.5 x 7 x 6 cm

The vase can be seen as a halfway object, operating between functional and decorative roles, and carrying the outside world in.

The vase and flower show is a project that aims to raise the status of the domestic ‘vase of flowers’. The vase and flower show was first held in September 2020 with the second, part 2, exhibited in April 2022. Tweny-one artists from around Australia working in ceramic, were invited to expand on the idea of the ‘vase of flowers’.

We have spent more time at home over the last two years than maybe ever before. Nature in the form of flowers, leaves and plants, brought into the house bring us solace and joy. Their ephemeral beauty refreshes and renews our interior worlds, both physical and mental. This exhibition looks at rebalancing the relationship between objects and nature.
